In the book I’m reading the author asked the reader to write three lists of 30 things. One was 30 things you want to do, the next is 30 things you want to have, and then last is 30 things you want to be.
I’ll be honest. I thought all three lists would be easier.
When I was a kid in high school we had to come up with ideas for an I-Search paper (instead of research, all the information had to be from people instead of books, I think), and the teacher told us to make a list of 10 things, then throw that first list out, and make another list of 10 things, and maybe our idea would be on that list, but if not, make another list of 10 things, and then you’d really get into the good ideas.
Same principle here. The longer you go at it, the further you get away from the “easy ideas,” the closer you get to the good stuff. The things you really want to do, have, and be.
Well, anyway. I finished those lists today (I’ve been struggling on it for two days). Next up, a “20 things I love to do” list. I don’t hold out hope that this list will be any easier, but if it is, I’ll probably keep adding things until it gets hard. Because that’s where the good stuff ends up.
The other thing that’s been going on lately is I’ve been watching a bunch of YouTube videos (no surprise there, I suppose) about the woman whose conference I went to in January (Rachel Hollis, and RISE was the conference). There’s apparently a huge chunk of the population who hasn’t fallen under her spell (honestly, that’s pretty normal, I think). One video pointed out all the problematic things she’s done, said, etc. Another video (or maybe it was the same one?) gave her credit for building her business, but expressed a loathing for Dave Hollis (Rachel’s husband) and the way he treated Rachel not only when they were first dating, but also how he acted when he left his career at Disney and joined her at the company she built.
It’s absolutely fascinating, and there are a heck of a lot of good points in the stuff I’m watching. I don’t know that I agree with everything, but there area lot of valid things to consider.
I’m also trying to finish Mad Men before it leaves Netflix on June 10th. It’s not my first time through, but more like the 3-1/2 time. (The first time I watched the show I’m pretty certain I didn’t see the second half of season seven, or possibly didn’t see S7 at all.) I’d love to own it, but I’m not quite ready to shell out $50 for it on Vudu yet. Maybe when financial circumstances have changed.
I have leftovers for lunch, because no one else in my house will eat leftovers, because I don’t eve know why, it’s just one of those irritating things that keeps me from making casseroles and baked dishes, because I’m not always in the mood to eat the same thing for a week, and that’s what’d happen if I made that really awesome meal with Doritos, chili with meat and beans, and shredded cheese. Mmm, that sounds good now. However, I’ll have to make due with chicken nuggets and the most boring fries ever that everyone else in the house loves.
